The estate was established during the 19th century, with the first vigneron in the family. Robert Piollot (1930-2003), 2 generations later, expanded his father’s work by increasing the number of parcels of the domaine. It is thanks to him that we can now produce our 100% pinot blanc Champagne called « Colas Robin ». Indeed, in 1955, the Val Colas Robin parcel was cleared and planted by his hand, row by row. It’s also him who established the Piollot Selection Massale that we know today in the region. He dedicated his life to select his best plants and then grafting.
In 1986, Roland, his son, left school to move back to the domaine. He decided to convert 100% of the domaine’s production to Champagne production, which is the beginning of Piollot’s wines sales. Robert, close to nature, left to his son the legacy of working the land and carefully observing the progression of the plants. In 2009, the estate began converting to organic viticulture, with a total certification in 2014.
In 2020 we’ve got the DEMETER certification (biodynamie) for all of the vineyards. More than half of the vineyard is more than 40 years old. And we are doing everything to continue the older age of our vines. Piollot Champagnes carry on old Champagne traditions, bringing in organic and biodynamic viticulture as a mean for us to amplify the authenticity of our Champagnes. The biodynamie is more than a way to work. For us, it’s a way to live. Listening and observing the nature to preserve its balance.
